We made it y'all! It is finally December and that means CHRISTMAS!
I absolutely love this time of year and all the Christmas cheer that comes along with it. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is getting to spend time with my family. Every year we travel south to my mom's side of the family for Christmas day, and then head north to visit my dad's side of the family. My grandparents to the north, before they moved, put up their Christmas tree in front of large picture window, and it was always such a beautiful sight.
In honor of making it to December, I thought I would share this short I wrote during my fiction class, as it is full of all the Christmas vibes I felt at my grandparent's house. Enjoy!
The plush, orange-yellow carpet is soft underfoot as I tread softly into the main room. Soft, muted lighting highlights the main event glistening in the main window- the Christmas tree, bedecked and bedazzled with cheerful lights and beautiful ornaments, some new and many old. There are your traditional ornaments- green, gold, red, and white, and your not traditional ornaments, such as an airplane that makes sounds when you press a well-used button. The worn couches cause fuzzy memories to surface of cousins, aunts, and uncles sitting and watching, soft smiles on their faces, as family members open presents under the glow of the fake evergreen tree. Snow falls outside as the frigid wind blows, but the feelings of warmth in this room cannot be blown away. Stepping closer to the tree, I admire the train track running over the tree skirt, with the train happily moving around and around and around, taking all worries and fears with it. I press a button on an ornament and can’t stop the smile that spreads on my face as the tinny sound of O Christmas Tree starts playing. Soon the room will be filled with the hustle and bustle of family members reuniting and exchanging presents, but for now the room is still, soaking in this silent night.
